LIGNELL VOICE STUDIO
Policies and Contract
________________________________________________________________
Welcome
Welcome to my Voice Studio! I am excited to begin working with you to improve your vocal instrument! One of the greatest joys in my life has been the process of developing and using my vocal talents through lessons and performing. I love teaching and seeing my students grow in ability and confidence. I hope to provide an encouraging and inspiring environment for you as we work together.
This form includes information about my Voice Studio and the expectations I have for my students, as well as my responsibilities as your teacher. I want my policies to be up front and transparent so we are all on the same page.
Studio Location
Lessons are taught in my home studio in Pleasant Grove. I will provide the address for this location after we confirm your spot in my studio.
Tuition
$140 per month (Averaging out to $35 per weekly, half hour lesson.)
I depend on my Voice Studio as my source of income. Charging per month instead of per lesson means that some months you may end up getting 5 lessons. Bonus! This allows for some flexibility for scheduling holidays/vacations and it secures your spot in my studio. I will only guarantee 4 lessons per month. If you miss a lesson for any reason in a month that has 5 weeks in it, I will not reschedule if 4 lessons will be taught that month.
Scheduling
If you are interested in beginning lessons, please contact me directly so that I can register you and we can arrange a weekly lesson time. I work on a school-year based schedule. Late August-May and Summer lessons: June-early August.
Payment Due Dates
Student tuition is due monthly at the first lesson starting in September. Summer and August lessons will be billed per lesson at the end of the month to allow for vacations and tricky Back to School scheduling.
Payment Methods
Venmo:@Kelli-Lignell
Checks: Made payable to Kelli Lignell
Cash: Exact bills only
Missing a Lesson
If you need to miss a lesson, please contact me directly at least 24-hours prior to the lesson via text. If 24-hour notice isn’t given, you will be responsible for payment. Missed lessons without proper notification, as a general rule, will not be rescheduled. I will do my best to reschedule your lesson to a time that works best for both of us. But if I provide several lesson possibilities and you can’t make it work, you will still be charged for the lesson. Right now, I plan to set aside Mondays as a general day for make-up lessons. Please keep in mind: If you verbally tell me you will be missing a lesson in between students, I cannot be guaranteed to remember.
Please give me written notice through text.
Arriving Late to a Lesson
If you know you will be late for a lesson, please notify me as soon as possible. I understand that things happen, but I appreciate it when you make me aware as soon as you can. Please arrive on time. After 15 minutes, I will consider the lesson to be cancelled. Late lessons without proper notification, as a general rule, will not be rescheduled.
Lessons end on time, regardless of what time you arrive, unless previous arrangements have been made. You have booked a lesson slot, not a length of lesson.
Termination of Study
One of the most important aspects of voice training is the relationship between a teacher and student. I may not be right for everyone, and not everyone will be right for me. That’s okay! I reserve the right to terminate a student’s studio membership and refund future lessons if I feel their needs could be better served elsewhere. I will also do so if there is a violation of this policy in the studio or an issue with respect toward me or other students arises.
If you decide to cancel your studio membership, please give me one month of notice. Refunds cannot be guaranteed if this notice is not given.
Instructor Responsibilities
If I have to cancel a pre-paid lesson for any reason, and that lesson cannot be rescheduled to the satisfaction of both parties, the tuition will be applied toward a future lesson.
I will begin lessons at their scheduled time or I will extend the lesson to make up the difference.
Student Responsibilities
Please come ready to have fun, be vulnerable, and get creative with me. This can truly be the highlight of your week, as it is for me.
Please email me a pdf of any sheet music you would like to work on before our session so you’ll have one copy for yourself and one for me as we work. I recommend bringing a water bottle and a recording device. Recording your lessons can be an incredibly useful tool in your progress and a great way to practice between lessons! Keep all of your music in a binder that you bring each week to your lesson.
Inform any performing groups or sports you participate in about the lesson slot we have agreed upon. I am not responsible for planning around your rehearsal schedules, so please list our time as a conflict when you audition for a new group/show.
Practicing
I believe that students will get the most out of their money if they practice outside of lesson time. Results do not usually happen as a result of one session with me, rather through application of principles I teach during lessons. I do not write out exactly what students need to practice each week. I expect my students to sing a lot at home during the week. Rehearse the songs we are working on and other songs that they enjoy.
Wellness
If you are not well, please do not come to your lesson. As part of maintaining vocal health, I encourage students to hydrate, sleep well, and avoid vocal overuse.
Additional Expenses
From time to time, it may be necessary to purchase a book, recording, or sheet music. For your convenience, I am happy to buy them for you with the understanding that I will be reimbursed for the entire cost within one week of the purchase.
Studio Performance
Students will have the opportunity to perform in a Vocal Recital in the early spring. I will announce the concert date and details in early January at the latest. I have found that the holiday season and the end of the school year are the busiest times of the year. So, I intend to schedule something in March. The week prior to the recital, I plan to begin teaching group lessons, in which students will get to practice their performance skills.
Communication
If I’m teaching a lesson, the best way to reach me is via text. This allows me to receive time-sensitive information while not being too distracted while teaching. You may email me any time and I will respond in a timely manner.
